The diversity of my college life

As a graduating student, I am feeling the time flies. Recalling about the past one year, so many thoughts are flooding in my mind. At this time, I just can’t tell my real idea. The memory is just like so fresh, and all the things happened yesterday!

Look! There is a rainbow! On the first day of my university life, when I walked into the campus, there was a rainbow bridging over the fountain, I hadn't seen rainbow for a long time. I was so excited, and leaped high with joy. It was a propitious sign indicated that my life in college would be colorful and actually it is!

The college life is wonderful. All life in school is fresh. New teachers, new classmates and fresh friends are around me. I've felt their friendship, wide knowledge and opening mind. The grand library, school buildings and wide playground are very attracting to me. I am very eager to learn much knowledge quickly.

Some people may feel that college life is boring and do not know how to deal with the plenty of spare time. But I think the college life will become wonderful as long as you make it meaningful. 

In your spare time, you could join in any college clubs, as you like. There are  fencing club, Irish dancing club, Horse riding club, basketball club and even accounting club and so on.

As hospitality management students, I had having a really unforgettable memory from the past years. There are many events we have organized during last couple years. From the very beginning, we are having the service course, it give us a chance to organize a theme event at the semester 2. At that stage, as a fresh students, we are not clearly how to sell the tickets, how to promote our event, how to organize the team member. Compare the last event we have organized of my college life, we have grown into maturity and can handle everything by ourselves.

I still remember the special education trip has been taken at the beginning of the second year. There are around 30 students from both events and hospitality class went to that trip. It is memorable not only we spent the time at France, but also the friendship has been built up during that time. There are so many memorable things in my college life. About to graduate, there is a little reluctant for the college life.

Wireless Technology

Today, families with two or more computers, in order to save money, make full use of existing resources, to implement a home network connected to the computer set up, is a very natural thing.

Wireless network technology in the continuous development and improvement, and wireless technology is a complement not a substitute to compare with cable network. 

Home networking is the choice for wireless access or wired access, choice may seem difficult, in fact, it is very simple. The user according to their own needs, and then choose a suitable network access. Up of general words, the pursuit of cost-effective network cabling and no need to consider the impact of the layout of home users the choice of cable network. If the user want to use the network more flexible, so that they can choose the wireless network. Both of the network ways have its own advantages, so that we can not say which one is better than another one.

In this paragraph the author will look at the wireless technology to relevant with mobile phones, that includes 1G and 3G; Infrared; Bluetooth; Wifi; and WiMax.

• 1G, can only make voice call.

• 2G, based on the 1G functions, 2G has increased the function of receiving data, such as receiving e-mail or Web page

• 3G, it is 3rd generation has high-speed that supports video and other rich media, always-on transmission for e-mail, web browsing, instant messaging. Third-generation mobile phone has a large color screen, and most of them are touch-screen. 3G mobile phone users can directly write on the touch screen, drawing, and send it to another phone, and the time required may be less than one second. Of course, you can also transfer this information to a computer, or download some information from the computer;3G mobile users can directly use the Internet, check email or browse the Web; There will be many models of 3G mobile phone comes with the camera, which will allow users to use their phones to have face to face meeting with their friends.

• Infrared, Can make use of infrared and desktop computers and other related equipment to exchange information. Mobile infrared can integrate mobile phone with a computer or other wireless connection, the premise is both the connector has the infrared. If the user want to transmission photos to the computer, then close to the computer infrared port, the computer automatically signal search is successful will appear in the computer system.

• Bluetooth, is actually a short distance wireless technology, the use of "Bluetooth" technology, which can effectively simplify the Pocket PC, laptop and mobile phone handsets and other mobile communication terminal for communication between devices, but also more successful in simplifying the equipment and Internet communication between these modern communication devices so that data transmission between the Internet more quickly and efficiently.

All the technologies have mentioned above are very useful and make human beings life more and more convenient. However, in the author's opinion, if a cell phone have wifi and bluetooth and also wimax function at the same time, and operating them at the same time, will there be any conflict between each other?

Freedom of speech is a consistent controversial topic. In my own opinion, everything has both positive and negative side. In this case, the key dispute is people not clearly about the rights of to use freedom of expression and the ownership of the freedom of speech. In other words, it is the difference between the rights to give speech online and the way you give speech online.

I am not sure about the Chinese online policy, but have to say there might be some shortage of this area.

China is the largest Internet market of the world with 400 million 5 thousand 7 million Internet users. The Chinese government banned on the web pornography, gambling and criticism of the ruling Communist Party's remarks. Related to the recent event, LinkedIn web has been blocked in China till 24 hours, because of the some users give an online speech about the “jasmine revolution” in China and called everyone to participate this revolution.

Based on this event, some people will disagree with the Chinese web censorship, but in my own opinion, I think there must be a reason that leads the Chinese government doing this.

Let us leave the case for a while; let’s have a look the Chinese population, and how they affect on the online speech. There are around 1.3 billion Chinese, and as we know different people have different thought and opinion. Sometimes a rational expression of online speech will not been taken as mainstream. On the opposite, it may lead to errors in sensational views into the mainstream. In a simply way, not everyone has a rational thinking about the ongoing event. In addition to this, some people can not be rational thinking, not only because they did not know the truth of the event, but also they have the shortage of knowledge to understand the event. Sometimes people that not have properly education, will be ignorance, and will be easier to believe others’ opinions, which is negative opinion.

There still has another problem about the shortage of knowledge. When different persons are looking at the same photo, different opinions will come out, some are positive and some are not. They more like to judge the event only based on one photo. However, I have to say that, what can you see from a photo? Can you all the event background? All the culture information? Yes, all the things you can see is not comprehensive, it is very limited, and all the opinions you give out is only on one-side.

Therefore, maybe the Chinese online censorship is not properly yet, but face to its population situation, we should understand the government. In my opinion, it is the citizens’ rights to give a freedom of online speech, but it is also necessarily to censor the details of the speech in case to bring the positive effect.

Web Usability

While the users use the web, there always arises the complain from them. The complains could be the difficulties to find out the information, the home page layout, the download speed and also could be the page content. All these difficulties lead to the web is unclear and not easy to use.

The definition of web usability as " An approach to make sites easy to use for end-user, without requiring her or him to undergo any specialized training. The user should be able to intuitively relate the actions he needs to perform on the web page, with other interactions he sees in the general domain of life."

After understanding how importance the web usability is, it is necessarily to improve web design to be more usability for the end-users. The author has considered some opinions that can help the web tend to be more usability.

• Identify the target market. Who will use your website? Is there any barriers for these users to use the website? What type of design theme the target group prefer to?
• Analyze the target group. What information they are interested in? Why the target group choose to use our web site?
• Analyze the past visitor database. How often these people visit to our web, and what the key words they are searching for. How many pages they have visit? How long they stay at the web?
• Minimum the pages number. It is better to put one paragraph information at the same page.
• Do not put too many images and flash, etc. Some web designers put too many media stuff, wish the users to look at all of them. This action may be will rich the web design, however, it could also slow down the web opening speed. And the web speed is the one of the most elements that the users will consider.
• Unanimous web design. Put the brand logo on every page. Set up the standard of the web design, like every page have the same layout of the information, the same style of the click button, and the same design of the content.  So that in aim to help the users increase of the brand awareness.
• Analyze the web information. Are they related to the target group? The amount and the quality of the information.

Based on the theory we have mentioned above, there is a good example that can prove the importance of the usability. Let me ask you first, what type of your register name when you purchasing online? Are they mostly a series of words and numbers? Do you feel they are hard to remember, specially when you have couple of different register names? You may wish to use the same nickname of different account, however there is always be someone has used the your nickname already, so that you only can choose another one again. Even there is no-one took your nickname, but the users can spend lots of time on register process. Hence, why the every web designer do not ask for the email address as the register name? And why don't they keep the registration process in simply way?

"Amazon.com" as a online purchasing website, did very well on this point of view. They use the email address as the register name, and keep the registration process simple. Even the purchasing process is very simple too. As the user, you login their web first, and choose the delivery address, then choose delivery options, enter payment details, and last is review and submit the order. And bang! You will receive the product in couple days. Isn't easy? 

Some other online purchasing web has put lots of information, and many requirements before your purchase. There are just misunderstanding users and make them confuse. Therefore, to keep web usability is very significant, and if you wanna do a online business, it is better to keep the web follow with the web standard and web usability.

why graduation students can't find a job?

When we read newspapers, our attention is always attracted by increasing unemployment rate in young graduates who are leaving college. In my opinion, there are many causes for this disquieting phenomenon and we should try to solve the problem.

Most companies would rather employ a low-educational specialized worker than a this-year’s graduate from a well-known university. For companies, they are more likely to choose the candidates with rich working experience. Apparently enough, the training for young graduates usually costs them a large quantity of time and money. In addition, the current education system brings on a lot of bookworms who are adept in theoretical but not practical knowledge. Therefore, it is hard for those graduates to complete the practical assignments successfully and smoothly. This is one major reason why many graduates find it to find suitable jobs.

An un-mandatory retirement age is another factor leading to the youth unemployment for college graduates. Along with the improving of working efficiency, proficient employees with rich and extensive working experience get retired at a much later age. In this case, for young graduates, there are fewer chances to get access to the jobs taken up by the older and more experienced.

However, the youth unemployment may cause serious social problems. Due to the gloomy job markets, college students may leave school before finishing their academic study, thus the higher education system will be challenged, and more seriously, the importance of higher education will be doubted. This will cause retrogression in education.

To solve this grave problem, both colleges and students should take some actions. On one hand, it is advisable for colleges to adjust courses more closely related to the future jobs. On the hand, students in college, as future candidates for employment, should not only get a good command of professional knowledge but also take part in some practical exercises to be prepared for the future jobs. In addition, government may stage laws and regulations to assist graduates in finding jobs.

The benefits of web standards as follow:

It is more easier for the search engines to display the web page, because of the information is more text matching with the search engines.

From the clients' point of view, it is much easier to understand the page structure through the web standards. The content of the web page is very clear and will be easy to find.

From the peoples', specially disability peoples' point of view, there are browsers been provided through the standards, it is more convenient for them to use the web, and disability people have the right to equal as others. Thus to provide the browsers are necessarily.

As we know, a web site will be redesigned through many designers, and each of them will have different perspective to design the web. The web standards offer a set or rules, so that content can be restyled easily without changing code.

- Provides print friendly versions for all pages.

- Easier to maintain, because of the less code and modular code.

Everything has two sides, web standards have disadvantages too. But in my own opinion, I think to compliment web standard is necessarily, especially for those disability people.

A memorable non-electronica days

Last monday I have received assignment about non-electronica, and the duration is three days. Firstly i feel very interesting and meaningful of this assignment. we not usually do this kind of event in China, which i think it is worth to have a try.

In the non-electronica duration you have to give up using mobile-phone, internet, and email, which I think it is piece of cake for me. However, when I actually taking action on this, the challenges have keep arising.

At monday afternoon, I went to Marshes and have food shopping. When I paying the bill, I take out my phone and make a phone call to taxi station as usual. Suddenly I remember the non-electronica stuff, therefore, i hang off the phone, and run to the telephone booth in the front of marshes, call for the taxi, and run back to dunnes. I should take off the battery of mobile phone, unfortunately i didn't. So in the evening time, the ''devil'' come to me again. One of my friend has called me, what can i do? I have to pretend didn't hearing the phone rang.

On the Tuesday, I took the battery out and leave the phone at home, so there is no mobile phone story anymore. However, that is not the end of the story. I went to college and one of my lecture asked me to print a note that she has emailed to me. At that moment, i felt how hard is to give up the electronic things. The best way I can do is ask one of my friends that is not in my class to do me a favor, print it for me. And at that stage I started missing internet life.

At the last day, because we finish this activity at the afternoon, so it isn't tough for me. The time flies, in the evening, I back to my usual life, which is so enjoyable.

This is really a good activity, and I think I will suggest my friend to have a try when i back to China.
